Gems from the 18th century – an organ recital by Johannes Skudlik

The Bakáts Square mechanical tracker organ, renovated in 2024 and equipped with a stepper (Setzer) system in 2025, hosts free concerts by renowned European organists, such as Pedro Alberto Sánchez, Alessandro Bianchi and Patryk Podwojski. The concerts are organized by Szeged organist Levente Kuzma.

A CV of Johannes Skudlik
Born in Munich and grown up in Barcelona he has conducted major symphony orchestras (including the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment London, Prague Symphony, Ural Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, Virtuosi Italiani, Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra, members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Orchestra di Padova e Veneto) major concert halls such as Berlin’s Philharmonie and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Shanghai Cultural Square, in Paris, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Neuschwanstein, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and most recently in Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia.
Symphonies by Mahler and Bruckner, Tschaikowski and Berlioz (e.g. Strauß Alpine Symphony) as well as those of the Viennese Classical period, and choral symphonic make up Skudlik’s core repertoire. Skudlik also appears as an opera conductor (La Traviata, Magic Flute, etc.) Since 2016 Johannes Skudlik is principal guest conductor of the orchestra „Symphony Prague”.
As a concert organist, Skudlik has played on famous organs in Europe, America and the Far East (including Notre Dame Paris, Hong Kong Concert Hall, Frauenkirche Dresden, Cologne Cathedral, Suntory Hall and Opera City Tokyo, Harvard University, Synagogue New York City, St. Stephen’s Cathedral Vienna, Westminster Cathedral). Often in Duo Piano/Organ with Jean Guillou. Radio and television recordings for ARTE, Bayerischer Rundfunk, RAI uno and others. More than 30 CD recordings document his artistic work.
He regularly holds master classes at major teaching institutions such as the Gnessin Institute Moscow, the Rimsky Korsakov Conservatory St. Petersburg, Wuhan University China, Valencia Conservatorio superior as well as in Sardinia and Sicily.
Skudlik is founder and artistic Director of „Bayerischer Orgelsommer” and „Euro Via Festival„, which conceives and carries out cross-border projects in 10 European nations. After his recent debut in the Theatre La Fenice in Venice he has been appointed conductor of a 2023 CHINA – 16 cities – Concert Tour.
